History[]

Deliverd to Spitfire productions on 14 May 1968, the aircraft was registered to them as G-AWHL until 17 February 1969.[1]

After use by A.C. Shire/20th Century Fox Films for the movie "Patton", the aircraft was displayed in West Germany for movie promotion, 1969-1970.

Owned by Luftsportverein Hellertal, Siegerland, Germany, Aug. 1970-1973, it was displayed Siegerland airfield in JG54 scheme. Passed to Doug Champlin/Windward Aviation, Enid, OK, 1971, and registered as N109J, the airframe was fitted with DB601 engine and modified to Bf 109E standard.

Acquired by Champlin Fighter Museum, Mesa, AZ in 1981, and currently displayed as Luftwaffe/0392.[2]

Notes[]

  1. Messerschmitt Bf 109 aircraft, which were licence built by Spanish Hispano Aviaçion in the 40’ and 50’s, using Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
  2. Yellow 7 (plus MI-T as Hurricane)
