History[]

Built as a standard 747 in 1990, this aircraft made it's first flight on 6 March of that year,[1] before being delivered to China Airlines on 27 March. Initially operated as B-162,[2] it was reregistered as B-18272 in November 1999. Withdrawn from service on 12 December 2004,[3] the aircraft was delivered to Boeing Aircraft Holding Co on 17 December,[4] and reregistered as N780BA on 5 January 2005.[1] Converted to Dreamlifter configuration in February 2007, and delivered in March, N780BA was operated by Evergreen International Airlines from 12 March 2007 to August 2010, when it was transferred to Atlas Air.[5]

On 20 November 2013, while en-route to McConnell AFB, this aircraft inadvertently landed at Colonel James Jabara Airport, Wichita, Kansas, whose 6101 ft runway was too short for take off. Fortunately the next day the plane was able to depart from the airport without problems.[6]
